NDP bill would protect North Bay students from graphic anti-abortion images

NIPISSING — Erika Lougheed, Ontario NDP candidate for Nipissing, released the following statement in response to anti-abortion protestors targeting schools in North Bay with graphic images:

“Like many local students and parents, I was disturbed by the anti-abortion, anti-choice protestors targeting schools and children in our community with graphic images. It’s completely unacceptable to shove gory, traumatizing photos in the faces of our kids, and it sends the wrong message about women’s rights.

Vic Fedeli and Doug Ford should be condemning these tactics and taking action to protect our community from aggressive anti-abortion protestors. Instead, we have a Conservative government that makes space for anti-choice MPPs in its own caucus.

The Ontario NDP’s London MPPs have put forward a bill that would stop anti-abortion protestors from shoving graphic images in anyone’s face. I am urging Mr. Fedeli and Mr. Ford to support the Viewer Discretion Act (Images of Fetuses) so we can pass this legislation quickly and send a clear message to all anti-choice protest groups that forcing people — especially children — to see graphic images designed to traumatize them is unacceptable.”
