QUEEN’S PARK — Official Opposition NDP Leader Andrea is urging Doug Ford to come back to work, and immediately partner with the re-elected federal government to bring relief and support to Ontarians.
Horwath wrote to Ford Tuesday morning, urging immediate action on COVID-19, child care, long waits for surgeries and long-term care.
“Doug Ford has blamed the uncertainty caused by the federal election for avoiding action and for delaying the work of the legislature for weeks. He’s barely been seen in months. Now that the federal election is over, I’m urging him to immediately re-engage in the business of government, reach out to Ottawa and get moving on issues that are important to people’s quality of life,” said Horwath.
In her letter, she calls on Ford to contact the federal government immediately to get to work on improving the COVID-19 response, signing a $10 per day child care agreement, accepting federal funding to end the painfully long waits for surgeries and diagnostic procedures, and finally accepting federal dollars to improve nursing homes — money Ford has left on the table for more than a year.
“I’m grateful to each and every Ontarian who participated in the federal election, from the candidates who put their names forward, to the volunteers who knocked on doors, to the everyday folks who simply marked a ballot,” said Horwath. “I’m so proud of NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh for running a campaign that was inspiring and uplifting, and I know he’s going to keep pushing the federal government to do more, better, faster to help Canadians.
“Now, regardless of politics, Ontario’s leaders need to work with the federal government to deliver the help everyday folks in Ontario really need right now. It’s time to put partisanship aside, and get to work supporting families, worker and small businesses.”
